Long-Term Missions Process

As you consider all the possibilities of ministry among the nations, Navigators World Missions can provide a roadmap and more. From initial interest and investigation to guidance and preparation, experienced cross-cultural disciplemakers can equip you for your journey of a few years to a lifetime.

1

Interest & Investigation

Start by seeking the Lord and wise counsel to ensure you’re ready to go, then complete a Missions Interest Survey

  • Pray and seek guidance from mentors and leaders.
  • Discern your readiness and desire for missions.
  • Complete a Missions Interest Survey (online or by email request).
  • Have an initial conversation with a mobilization team member.
2

Onboarding

Apply to serve with Navigators World Missions. Once accepted, work with coaches to develop plans for launching, thriving, and funding your overseas ministry.

  • Get to know your assigned Launch coach.
  • Complete the World Missions application and provide references.
  • Participate in your first interview with the World Missions home team.
  • Receive an acceptance or next-step email.
  • Take the Thrive assessment and develop a Thrive plan.
  • Complete the pre-funding inventory with a funding coach.
3

Exploration

Work through the possibilities with your Launch coach: potential locations, the team you might join, maybe even an overseas vision trip.

  • Work closely with your Launch coach to narrow your potential locations.
  • Connect with potential receivers.
  • Complete a travel checklist with your Launch coach before a vision trip.
  • Take a vision trip to explore and discern God’s leading.
4

Invitation

Before you get an invitation to serve overseas, you’ll have a follow-up interview and gain agreement between you and the Navigators who would receive you on their team.

  • Participate in a second interview with the local receiver, Launch coach, and Care Partners.
  • Receivers (Navigators already serving at the overseas destination) may invite you to join their ministry.
  • Complete a conversation over the Sender-Receiver-Goer Agreement, then sign the agreement.
  • Once you’re invited, the Launch team submits a job description and preliminary budget on your behalf to Human Resources.
5

Development

Grow in your ability to make disciples overseas for the long term with cross-cultural training, Navigator staff orientation, and funding coaching.

  • Work through training and growth steps with your Launch coach.
  • Complete the study, “Navigating Cross-cultural Missions,” in a cohort or one-to-one sessions (six to eight sessions, about two hours of homework per session).
  • Attend Launch Summit (March or September).
  • Complete new staff orientation (if applicable).
  • Complete funding training (if new to Navigator staff) and meet with a funding coach regularly. [Is “if needed” necessary re: funding coaching? Isn’t it likely in most cases?]
  • Complete cross-cultural preparation (for example, with Mission Training International).
6

Outgoing Preparation

You’re almost ready to start packing! Finish tying up loose ends and prepare for God to use your life as you follow Jesus to the ends of the earth.

  • Complete funding and all remaining requirements.
  • Receive the “green light” to purchase tickets and depart.
  • Depart! Begin serving under your local receiver with ongoing support from Care Partners.
