Our Blue Ridge region partners with Dr. Tim Ssemakula and his wife, Ann, through their ministry at Calvary Medical Centre & Water Project. Uganda is the second youngest nation in the world, with little access to clean water or healthcare leading to high mortality rates. There is also little access to a pure gospel, grounded in biblical truth, or to discipleship in learning to walk with Jesus. We welcome you to trust that God could use your life in Uganda!
What to expect (three sections).
Once your application is accepted, Navigators World Missions and your team leaders will guide you through fundraising, logistics, going, and coming home. (If you’d like not to include the cost of immunization and visa in your fundraising, you will have a $4800 total instead to fundraise.)
Service
Your team will serve in a variety of ways at the clinic — with opportunities ranging from assistance during surgeries to prayer over patients as they wait in line. You’ll also help run water lines, going house to house to install filters and teaching families to use them. (One water source can serve 30 people/day for the next 100 years.) You will interact with patients, local households, medical staff, and camp workers at the housing site, at every point seeking to share the gospel, pray with others, and encourage discipleship with Jesus.
Learning
Draw near to God’s heart for the world, as you are immersed in another culture. You will learn about the customs, values, needs, and beauties of Ugandan people, as you see how God uniquely reflects Himself through them. And you will grow to see that our God is at work bringing His Kingdom to the world in mighty ways. We go as participators in His work and learners of His Kingdom.
As part of every trip, Dr. Tim includes a safari. You may be surprised that spending money this way allows every person impacted to be benefited. Dr. Tim receives funds that go back to the clinic, the employees have the dignity of working for a sustainable wage and of showing that beauty coexists with need in Uganda, and YOU get to see rhinos and elephants!
Inward Transformation
Go and see that we are not saviors of the world, but servants who learn from those we go to serve. This trip is a discipleship journey: ultimately, it is a chance to learn about God, become like Jesus, die to your own agenda, and live for His. Through each step, you will be shaped into the man or woman that God is intent you should become.
