Discipling For Development: Uganda (Summer 2024)

Ugandan Navigators have been catalyzing disciple-making movements for more than 40 years. Join us to learn principles and strategies from Ugandan Christians that will help you better serve God through your own vocation and calling, wherever you live. We will visit established movements of the gospel in three distinct settings: rural villages, an urban neighborhood, and a university campus.

We begin with a ministry among rural Ugandan villages that joins public health concerns, community formation, and spiritual growth. We will learn from veteran D4D (Discipling for Development) practitioners who have dedicated their lives to the advancement of the gospel and to building thriving communities.

Next, we visit a low-income neighborhood in the capital, Kampala, a metropolitan area of more than 7 million people. We will interact with communities of believers who practice holistic discipleship among the urban poor.

Finally, we join Ugandan university students in evangelism on their campus and build confidence to live out your faith by engaging in spiritual disciplines in a new context. Throughout this trip you will learn the integration of physical, social, and spiritual development that can be applied to any vocation and context.

Applicants should be able to recognize what God has done and is doing in their own lives. They should be eager to learn new perspectives, even when those perspectives challenge old, cherished traditions. They should be able maintain a positive attitude when uncomfortable, both physically and emotionally.

Students interested in Uganda might also be interested in our 12-week summer internship in Intercultural Communication. In addition to the Uganda trip, interns spend 8 weeks working with various non-profit organizations serving multicultural communities in Boston, guided by Navigator staff with decades of experience in cross-cultural ministry. Interested students should contact Robert Meyer (robert.meyer@navigators.org) for more information.
