Foundations of D4D

Learn the basics of Discipling for Development (D4D) and our whole-life discipleship approach through our online Foundations of D4D course. We’ll cover:

We offer the course three times a year, starting the second week of January, May and September.

Course Requirements

This course requires approximately five hours of the participant’s time per week with one of those hours in the Zoom classroom each week. The course lasts approximately 12 weeks. Please make sure you are able to budget the time required before enrolling.

You’ll learn using the Moodle online platform. Participants must have regular access to a PC or equivalent and internet access with enough bandwidth to support a multiple-person Zoom call (prior registration with Zoom required).

You will experience this course using a cohort learning model. This model works quite well when participants commit to learning interactively with faithful and timely completion of assignments. This includes completion of reading assignments, participation in the interactive discussion forums online and participation in a weekly one-hour Zoom call.  The required reading includes

  • When Helping Hurts: Alleviating Poverty Without Hurting the Poor (Brian Fikkert and Steve Corbett)
  • Community Development and Christian Discipleship (Gary Hipp)
  • Generous Justice: How God’s Grace Makes Us Just (Tim Keller)

Your facilitator helps you process ideas, themes and biblical truths related to whole-life discipleship and community development, and to apply new learning to your own situation. Participants need to “own” the learning process for themselves and wholeheartedly engage with that perspective.
